Chinese Silver Goblets

Chinese export silver goblets were made in quite large numbers, as goblets were a very popular item in the Nineteenth Century both in Europe and Asia. There were many sporting competitions, particularly in Hong Kong, where the winners were often awarded a Chinese export silver goblet. Several of the antique Chinese silver goblets have shields (or cartouches) on which the competition details can be listed, and it is interesting to find such antique Chinese silver goblets with an original inscription. Styles vary from plain or engraved examples, very much in keeping with their British counterparts, to ones that are extremely elaborate with traditional figural or floral scenes.
